Agenda Item: VII.C.

Consider/Approve Video Camera System and Magnetic Lock Assembly
for the Career Technology Center

Background Information:

In addition to advertising, we solicited bids from Pro-Tec Security, Townsend Systems, and EduTech for the purchase and installation of security cameras and a magnetic lock assembly for the Career Technology Center. With this purchase, all facilities, except Central Office, will be equipped with security cameras and a locking system. We received bids from Pro-Tec Security ($15,973) and EduTech ($14,310).

The extended bids consist, among other things, of installing 7 indoor cameras and 5 outdoor cameras. Even with the building of new facilities, the Career Technology Center will continue to house our alternative school and Adult Education Center.

The purchase, installation, and funding of the security cameras and magnetic lock assembly was not originally budgeted during the budget planning process for the current fiscal year; however, there are sufficient funds available in line item 76100-707, Regular Capital Outlay, Building Improvements, for this purchase. Although we have not had any break-ins recently, we began searching for adequate funds for this purchase due to the earlier break-ins this past fall. The key card system purchase for South Fulton Middle/High came in significantly under budget ($12,593) and it is very likely that other items budgeted in this line item will come in enough under budget to allow this purchase.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the bid submitted by Edutech for the security cameras and magnetic lock assembly.
